AISHWARYA RAI TO PLAY MUMTAZ IN TAJMAHAL MOVIE

Bollywood actress and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai will feature in a film about Taj Mahal, India's famous marble monument to love. She will play the legendary Mumtaz Mahal, the favorite wife of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan who built the stunning monument for her.

Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley will play Shah Jahan. The as yet untitled film will be produced by Kingsley and is scheduled to be shot this year in Agra on the banks of the river Yamuna, where the Taj Mahal stands. This is not the first time Ben Kingsley is playing a historical Indian character. He played Mahatma Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s film Gandhi, for which he bagged an Academy Award for the best actor.

Ben said, "The movie is on the building of the Taj Mahal. The romance will also include Shah Jehan's abject isolation for years in a prison cell. I had spoken to Aishwarya last year while we were working on 'The Last Legion' and she very generously agreed to do the movie with me.”

“My production house is working with a screen writer on the project, I have very clear ideas about how I want to approach the subject," he added.

Meanwhile, Bipasha Basu, will play the role of Shah Jahan's daughter, Jahanara.
